DISCOVERY MEMBERS COULD RIDE WITH LANCE

Discovery clients stand a chance to ride with legend Lance Armstrong in a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity journey from Cape Town to Hermanus next month. Armstrong, who will be in the country to cycle the world's biggest cycle race, is promoting his Live Strong campaign. Discovery members received an email today inviting them to sign up for the opportunity to win this chance. Three lucky South Africans will ride with Lance in this 100km route to Hermanus.

11CAPE TOWN SELECTION RACE FOR UNIVERSITY CHAMPS
12 February 2010

A The 11Cape Town race at the end of this month will be the selection race for the FISU World University Championships to take place in Spain at the end of May. To qualify athletes must be born no later than 1 January 1983 and must be a bona fide student registered as a triathlete with their university triathlon club.

CAPE EPIC LOTTERY SYSTEM FOR 2011

I The early bird entries for the 2011 race whereby the first 100 entrants get to participate on a first come, first served basis, will take place on 29 March at 14:00 and if last year was anything to go by, this will all be over in about 100 seconds. The lottery system opens on the same day and closes on the 30 May 2010.

WPTA AGM POSTPONED
25 January 2010

In a letter addressed to Western Province Triathlon Association members, current WPTA Chairman, Brett Chilcott has advised athletes that the planned AGM scheduled to take place on 31 January 2010 has been postponed. Citing procedural and constitutional requirements not being met, he confirmed that the current committee would continue to "effect the functioning of the provincial structures including Team selection and Team management for the SA Triathlon Championships.

CARTMELL AND RABIE CLAIM VICTORY IN EAST LONDON
17 January 2010

A South African Olympic athlete, Mari Rabie burst onto the half Ironman distance race scene at the Spec-Saver 70.3 Ironman race in East London to claim overall victory and set a new course record. Leading out of the water Rabie had to concede the lead to Lucie Zelenkova and Sandra Wallenhorst during the cycle, but reclaimed the lead at the 18km mark of the run and crossed the line in first position - giving the crowd something to cheer about. Cartmell (UK) took the lead at the 14km mark on the run and headed for the finish line ahead of James Cuuama and Brad Storm who finished second and third respectively.

BRAND CHANGE FOR 11GLOBAL

11Global has revealed a tweak to their branding that will see the series renamed as ELEVEN. Each race in the series will be known as ELEVEN and the town's name. For example the race in Cape Town at the end of February will be known as ELEVEN Cape Town. To enter the race, visit the revamped website at www.11global.com.

WP TRIATHLON CHAMPS RETURNS TO MYKONOS

After several years absence, the Western Province Triathlon Championships will return to Club Mykonos at the end of January. Entries are already open for a day of unequaled racing up the West Coast.  The day will be rounded off with a super-sprint distance catering for anyone keen to give triathlon a try - and for teams to challenge each other on the day. 11GLOBAL RETURNS TO CAPE TOWN IN FEB 2010

DREYER'S DREAM TEAM EYES DUSI SUCCESS

Martin Dreyer's "Change a Life" development squad claimed two top ten and seven top 20 positions at the Hansa Powerade Dusi Canoe Marathon and will once again be aiming for success at this year's event taking place from 21 - 23 January.

WEATHER SEES TWO DISCIPLINES CANCELED IN KLEINMOND
09 January 2010

For the first time since the event's inception, Totalsport Challenge competitors were faced with weather conditions at the start of the day that saw two of the seven disciplines cancelled. Strong wind conditions forced event organisers to cancel the 12km surfski and the 1.5km swim. Competitors started the race with a 50km road biking section. TISSINK WITHDRAWS FROM IRONMAN 70.3
December 2009

Martin A very disappointed Raynard Tissink was forced to withdraw from the 2010 SpecSavers Ironman 70.3 due to an ankle injury which occurred while he was doing some off road motor biking. Falling of his bike, he twisted his ankle badly and damaged his Achilles - an injury that now see him unable to defend his 2009 title.
